We were able to convince the fine folks at Peerless to allow us TWO barrels on this pick because, try as we might, we couldn't possibly pick just one!
Barrel #1 Barreled September 2016
NOSE: Sweet corn, caramel, milk chocolate, and sweet cinnamon. Agitation and decanting amps the caramel and chocolate notes while adding light hints of banana.
PALATE: Medium density with classic bourbon spice and citrus peel. Cereal grain flavors dominate on the palate, which is the main difference between this barrel and Barrel #2 which leans more toward typical "barrel" flavors.
FINISH: Long with waves of warmth. Flavors linger and flip between spice and sweet.
OVERALL: Do not miss out on one of these!
Barrel #2 Barreled November 2016
NOSE: Leather, licorice, fudge, tobacco leaf. Agitation unlocks citrus, caramel corn and wet forest.
PALATE: Mild spice at first fades into sweetness. High viscosity. Flavors hit all over the tongue. Barrel flavors dominate opposite on this one.
FINISH: Lasts FOREVER. Lingering flavors of charred oak and burnt caramel.
OVERALL: Ohhh… so good! Barreled 11-2-2016 in barrel and emptied in April 2021. Adding water brought out vanilla and coffee on the nose while taming its ABV slightly without the loss of flavor or viscosity. Great bourbon, great story. Look into the Peerless history and drink some of this while you do.
